5 out of 5 stars A definite must have   March 16, 2010
Barbara Tuttle (Long Beach, CA)
These are by far the best fitting leggings I've ever owned. I'm tall 5'10, and I wear a size 14-16, and the large tall fit perfectly. They actually make me look slimmer and trimmer, and the material is perfect and thick, but not too thick. The inseam is perfect, these fit nice and long on me and I love them even though they're not denim as I expected. At first I was a little disappointed because I thought they said denim in the product description, but they look so nice, and fit so well that I think I'll order another pair in another color.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent leggings, nice fabric   February 28, 2010

Hmmm...maybe Newport News changed how they make these leggings since some of the reviews written in 2008. I am truly surprised to see people complain about the fabric, which is very soft and incredibly comfy; some also griped about the ankle opening and general tightness, also a non-issue. I am 5'7" and 150+ pounds with 33" inseams, not thin by any means, and I have not found these to be too tight or in any way constricting. In fact, I liked these so much after trying my first pair (overpriced at $19+ shipping...NN stinks in this regard), that I ordered 2 more for myself and 2 for my daughters...I only wish they had the dark brown in a large. They are long, but that works great for my long legs and they're usually either tucked into boots, or scrunched around the ankles, which is kind of cute anyhow. The other key point with these is that they do not get 'knees'...no bagging at all and plenty warm for winter wear.

I love these and wear them several times a week.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good for Newport News   September 22, 2009

Last year I ordered some Newport News shirts and sweaters that were on sale (I usually wear S or XS, ordered some S and some XS), and when they arrived, they were all WAY too big. Felt like I was wearing XL. Plus the quality was very shoddy. So I sent everything back, but instead of re-funding my money they sent me a store credit. I was pretty annoyed because everything I ordered had been crappy, so I just held onto the thing for a year and forgot about it.
I saw these leggings on Amazon and they had pretty good reviews so I decided to use the store credit. I had been looking for some nice ankle length leggings for fall and winter. Other reviews said they ran small so I ordered mediums, and I'm glad I did because they are pretty tight (I'm 5'4" and weigh 113 lbs). At first I thought I should have gotten large, but they are 95% cotton, 5% spandex, and after wearing them around the house for a while I think they have stretched a bit and fit more comfortably. They are long too, they scrunch a bit at my ankles but I don't really mind, there's not more than an inch of extra length. So definitely go up a size and get the petite if you're shorter, but I wouldn't get the talls unless you are over 5'6". They are a bit higher waisted than I'm used to (as a 20 year old who wears low rise jeans), almost to the bellybutton, but the waistband is smooth and rolls down well, if I roll it twice it still looks pretty flat and doesn't show, even under fitted tunics or dresses.
One thing to note is that in the stock photo it looks like there is about a 3 inch cuff at the bottom of the leggings, but if you look at the larger image, you can see that it is just a wrinkle because they're pushed up a bit. I almost didn't get them because I thought it was a cuff and I didn't want it to look like little boy's pajamas.
I bought them in charcoal, black, and indigo, and all the colors look very nice. They are sewn very well and much better quality than everything in my previous Newport News order. They are not too thick, but not too thin. They could be a little softer, but they seem like they will hold up well. One thing I love is that they are made in the U.S.A.
So overall, very nice, I recommend them, I'm not a fan of the company's normal quality, but the rating is for the leggings and not my past experience. Glad I found something to use my store credit on!

By the way, if you order them directly from Newport News' website, they are $10 each when you buy two or more pairs, instead of $12 each.

***EDIT!*** 12/09/09 - I just noticed that these have doubled in price. When I bought these, they were $12 each or $10 each if you bought two or more pairs, and now they are $19 each for the same exact product (both on Amazon and NN's website). It's ridiculous that the price doubled like that all the sudden.
The three pairs I got have worn in very nicely and become softer and they wash well and the colors have stayed nice, but if you are planning on buying these for $19 I would wait a while and see if they go down in price at all, unless you don't care about money. $19 for leggings, to me, is crazy, but maybe I'm just cheap? I'm not taking off a star because the price I got them for was good, and I do really like the quality, but I just wanted to put that out there for anyone looking at these.

5 out of 5 stars Great fit and comfort!   July 22, 2009

I have both the classic and capri leggings from Newport News, and approve of both! Color, quality, and comfort are all there! Price is beyond reasonable- don't think you should ever pay more than $10 for some leggings. One word of caution- they come small and therefore feel really tight on the legs. I am 5'6" and about 115lbs. I bought small and they had to be squeezed up my legs. But once on they were comfy and relaxing. A second word of caution- the capris are cut big up top. I ended up tucking the waist in to my bra! But the bottom part fit very well.

Length was correct, waist was blissfully not too wide/short (a problem common in the cut of bottoms these days), and material was perfect. Thank you, I'll be back!
